The Federated States of Micronesia is an island nation located in Oceania in the North Pacific Ocean. The country adopted a constitution in 1979 and in 1986 independence was attained as a sovereign state in free association with the United States. The country has four states: Chuuk (Truk), Kosrae (Kusaie), Pohnpei (Ponape), and Yap.

Kosrae is located 370 miles north of the equator and has a population of 7,317. The island is rarely visited and largely unspoiled. The island is a destination for serious scuba divers and hikers.
